Come & Join us.......
What is the Green Explorers Club?
The Green Explorers Club (GEC) is a club started in Malaysia to help Eco-tourist and outdoor enthusiasts find like-minded people to participate in vacation, Eco-tourism and any outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, camping, surfing, kayaking and many more. Our objective is to enjoy outdoor activities with friends, while promoting safety and environmental preservation, educating others about nature, and developing leadership skills. We promote health, community service, and environmental awareness with our theme “Fresh Air Experience”.
How does the Green Explorers Club Work?
The way GEC works is that any member can get an idea for an activity they want to do and post it to the online calendar, basically saying "I'm going camping Saturday, who wants to come?" Members can create events or update any information and post it at GEC official Facebook: Green Explorers Club Malaysia
Do Activity Leaders Have Special Training?
Outing leaders are not required to have any special training, so you join an activity at your own risk. Some members posting activities have extensive outdoor leadership experience including first aid and wilderness survival; others have no experience at all. You can ask the profile of the leader to see what other trips they've led. Trips are rated as beginner, intermediate or advanced. You can usually email the trip leader if you have questions. GEC also welcome any ideas, comments and experience sharing.
Is this a Singles Club or can Families Join?
It is opened to everybody from college age, senior citizens, couples, families with kids and married individuals whose spouses have other interests. Some leaders mentions whether an activity is open to kids and for adults only, but most don't specify. If you're not sure, contact the person who posted the outing.
How Much Does it Cost to Join GEC?
Membership are free, you only pay for your own trip or outing depending on your trip leaders. There may be a cost to the activity itself depending what it is. Even if it is a free, there may be a parking fee, or other fee involved.
How Do I Join GEC?
You need to provide us your particulars, a valid email address and facebook address to join GEC and sign up for events. Required details:
When approved, you will be given ID no. (eg: deensky/GEC-007-Puchong)
Are There Rules or Guidelines to Follow?
The GEC operates on the honor system. If you sign up for a trip and can't make it, you are expected to go online and take yourself off the list, even if it's the same day. If the trip leader posts a cell phone number, call and let them know that you can't make it at the last minute so they are not waiting for you. Most organizers allow a maximum of 15 minutes from the appointed time for everyone to gather at the assigned meeting point. People who flake out regularly on events they sign up for develop a reputation among trip leaders and may not be welcome on future trips.
Can I Post an Activity as a Tourist and New Member?
Yes. If you want to find people to join you for a tour/vacation/expeditions/convoy, you can post the event and see if anyone is interested in joining you. GEC members are usually friendly and helpful. You can always cancel the trip if no one signs up. Alternately, if you would like to find someone else to lead a particular trip, you can post a message on the message board or contact someone who has lead that trip in the past.
